My Firkin - Before & After

There was such a debate on what color to paint my firkin. I even went out last night and bought some new paints. I was either going to go with Yellow Ochre, Sandstone, or Antique Ivory and as you can see the Yellow Ochre won the debate. I wanted to paint it Sandstone, but when I thought that I might want to put it on top of my cabinets when I re-finish them, I thought that it wouldn't stand out as much as what I would like so that is why I went with the Yellow Ochre over the black. I am definitely pleased with the way it turned out. I actually love it and now I am on a search for the perfect spot. I would actually love to find another firkin and start a collection, but they are very few and far between. Anway, without further a-do, let's take a look

So, what do you all think of this make-over? Do you like the yellow ochre over black? I sanded it just enough to allow the natural wood color to come through as well and then put a coat of the walnut stain on top of that. I didn't paint the inside of it because I thought it looked pretty neat with the natural wood color, but I can always go back and paint it if I change my mind. So, we will live with it for a little while and wait and see. I think for the most part - the lid will be on so you will very rarely see it with the lid off. Well, hope you enjoyed the make-over. More thrift store make-overs to come. Stay Tuned!!

Very nice Lisa! I love how it turned out:-)I would really like some more firkins myself. You're right though, they are hard to find or else they are very expensive. Have a great evening!

Lisa,
It turned out great! The one I purchased that was already redone...was left natural inside of it.
I also would like to have more of them...I would like to stack some. Saw one at an antique mall last month, but they wanted $95.00 for it. Was way more than I wanted to pay for one.
Have a great rest of the week.

That turned out great. I do love the yellow ochre over black. But I also love the color sandstone. I have two firkins to paint and I have been leaning toward sandstone.

Wonderful job on the firkin Lisa! But then again, you always do a wonderful job on anything those awesome crafty hands of yours work on. :)

Just wanted to say that your fly cover turned out great. I am hoping to get some pantry cakes done and find materials to make a cover of my own too. :)

Love and hugs,
Stacey
