Does Anyone Know How To?

Does anyone know how I could make a scale more old and rustic? Awhile back I was in Amish Country and purchased the white scale (bottom picture) first. I then went to another antique barn and found the cream colored scale (first picture) and fell in love with it and bought it. Well, I was wondering if any of you might know how to make the white scale more rustic and old looking? My Mom told me to just stick it outside and let it get a bit more weathered, but I am just not sure that would work and I am kinda looking for a more quick fix. It currently has glass over the face of the scale so i would probably end up breaking that and giving the face a rusty look as well, but kinda looking for a bit of help here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first scale, but I know I could love the 2nd one if it were just older and more drab looking. Any suggestions ladies?

As for my migraine it is gone and I am so relieved. It made me pretty sick to say the least. I think I am going to lay off the painting and primming for a little bit and focus on decorating. I need to look through my totes and see if I can find more goodies for my new prim bathroom. Pictures will be posted on Sunday (more then likely). I just want to make sure I can find a shower curtain in Amish Country on Saturday and maybe even a few more prim pretties, but we will see. Hope you all have a blessed day!!

How about trying to paint it and make it look old? sand it some and then paint. It would rust putting it outside, but would take awhile, i think

Hi, Lisa!
Glad your migraine is gone. You could try & rust it with the peroxide recipe but I don't know how it would work cuz when you rust pins & bells you have to let them soak awhile. Ask Lisa from Blacksheepprims ~ she usually has an answer on primmin'. Have a great day.

Happy that your migrane is gone. What about the rusting method with that they use on prims.

I would have to agree with Pam...Lisa just posted a rusting solution on her blog the other day...I think it was her.
It will look fabulous when it is done!

So glad you are feeling better!

I see that someone has already given you the advice I was going to...paint! LOL!

If you have a heat gun available, you can paint it and apply heat to bubble and crackle, peel, etc the paint. It sure can give a great effect. Then you can rub a darker color over that to age it even more.

If it has a glass front, you will probably have to remove it to make it prim. Does it matter if it works or not? LOL!

Lisa, I just got a scale like your first one and I so loooove it too. I think you could age the other one up by using a mixture of bleach and vinegar I think. I would need to look that up but I am sure by the time I find it , these other prim girls will have it figured out for you. They are all great! I'm just an 'ole southern gal enjoying all the info and fellowship! Take it easy today and enjoy! Sherrie

Hi Lisa,

Love your scales, can't wait to see how the second one turns out. Glad to hear your feeling better.

I say bust out that glass and let it sit outside and rust up a bit. That might help make it a little more "prim".

I have a suggestion but will also be very careful with it. Get some muriatic acid and spray it all over it once you take the glass off of it. Be sure to wear a mask and for sure do it outdoors. It doesn't take near as long as the normal rusting formula but does work on metal. Just another option for you.

Hi Lisa,
Glad to hear you are feeling better. I'm loving your old scale...I've been looking for one, but no luck so far. Hope someone can help you figure out how to make the other scale look older.
