Cutting Boards - Before, During & After

Well ladies..... I have found a new love. Yep, you heard me correctly. I am in love with the Minwax Gel Stain. I went out last night and bought me just a little container of it and thought that I would try it out on my cutting boards that I just recently finished. Oh, now I am into wanting to stain everything (lol). My Mom jokes around with me and tells me be careful not to stain your son and of course we both share a chuckle. I will have to post a picture of my Mom here soon so you can see how sweet she looks. Not only is her personality sweet, but she looks sweet as well. I guess that is always a good thing (lol). Anywho...... I took some before, during and after pictures today because I know what it is like to not be at all familiar with doing this type of stuff and wanting so desperately to want to see before and after pictures. It is always nice to compare or at least I think it is. So, let's get started shall we? I purchased the walnut stain and it works like a gem. It gave me the look that I was looking for so I was definitely pleased with it. It was easy to work with and well I am ready for my next project. Oh - it would probably even work great on my cupboards. Ok, ok don't get yourself all excited. I haven't started them yet, but I will soon and you all will be the first to know about it. Well, maybe not the first, but probably the 2nd or 3rd. Ok, Lisa enough of the rambling already!! Let's take a look.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, this is my cutting board that I did awhile back. It is yellow ochre over black.
Here is the during process. I just used a foam brush to paint the stain on and then rubbed it off right away with an old towel. Doesn't it give it a whole different look? Oh, I love it.
Here is the after picture. All stained and finally prim complete.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok, are you ready for the BIG make-over?
Well, this was one ugly thrift store buy for 50 cents - oh, those flowers were hideous!!

I sanded it like a crazy woman (by hand) and went with a light buttermilk over black
Let me tell you that this board is sooo smooth. I must have had alot of stress that day that I had to get rid of because it is softer then a baby's butt (lol).
Here I am in the process of applying the walnut stain. Look at the difference. WOW!!
VIOLA - All finished and prim perfectly beautiful. Yep, I think I am pretty happy with this cutting board. It went from BIG time ugly to prim perfect and beautiful and I loved seeing this piece come to life. I think that is the fun part of it all and then of course showing it off.
So, what do you all think of my cutting board makeovers?
Let's see yours. Go ahead and post them and tell me about them.

Lisa, they are both great but I LOVE the second one. I've been using runny, messy stain on my signs - I'll have to try the gel stain now that I see how well it works!

I think they're wonderful! I'm buying me some walnut miniwax gel stain! I have several cutting boards to make over and I passed one up at GW last night. I wonder if it could still be there?
