Bathroom Cabinets R Complete - Not Completely Sold

Well, the much anticipated cabinet re-do is complete and I hate to say it, but I am not completely sold on it. My husband thinks it is too dark and I am not really sure what I think. Perhaps I have been inhaling the fumes too long!?! My husband liked it best totally white, but to me it was too stark white. The walls need painted and I still need to prim up the bathroom, but right now I am just not sold on the cabinets. Perhaps it is just because the decorations just don't go with the bathroom and I know for a fact that the purple walls don't match the cabinets so perhaps I need to work on that first. Don't you hate it when you do something and you are just not completely satisfied!?! Maybe I just need to stick with the smaller projects for awhile. Here are the pictures for you all to decide. I still need to add knobs, but this is what they look like so far.

I think they look neat...I also think you are right about the wall being purple and not having the right acceseries. Try changing those things then look at the cabinets...I think you will be totally happy with them:) You did a great job Lisa!

Oh,I think they look very good!
I believe once you change the wall color and accessorize to your liking....you'll be amazed at the difference....maybe some neat handles or knobs may be in order too....??? I have little mustard iron stars on my cranberry red kitchen cabinets(in an old post on my blog)and I really love them!
I think it's going to be A-OK!!

Lisa, I can see exactly what you are talking about. I do think you are going to have to paint the walls for the true test. I recently saw some cabinets that look like what I think you are after and they were not distressed as much. They were sanded around the knobs a right good bit and on the top and side edges, all the places that would be worn from use. I think by sanding them all over, you got too much of the grain look. If your walls were a prim neutral color, khaki, dark taupe or even a light mustardy color you might be pleased with the look. Also painting your molding would give a different look. Look at your Mom's slideshow...there are many items/pieces of furniture that have the look you are after. Be happy with whatever you do...it will be worth the extra effort..Sherrie

I think they look great! And I have to agree with you and everyone else. I'm sure they look out of place with the purple walls, etc. Once you get the walls painted and some prim accessorires in there, the cabinets will make sense. Just keep the big picture in mind and don't be too hard on yourself.

If you are truly not happy with the wood grain showing through, sand over that area again, and repaint. Then distress only around the edges and handles like Sherrie suggested.

It is worth the effort to make your home what you want. Good for you, for making that effort!

I would definitely work on the rest of the room before I gave up on the cabinets. I probably would have worried about the cabinet after I painted the walls because the wood tone would have matched until I had everything finished. I can't live with something not matching...I'm goofy like that...

As another commenter mentioned, you could always do just paint and sand the edges. The stained grungy look isn't for everyone.

But I have also learned over the years that any time you do anything that is way different than what you are used to, it's going to look "funny" to you. Your eyes have to get used to the change. This is why so many people run out and repaint a room 15 times, trying to find the PERFECT color and don't find it. They think that because they don't automatically fall head over heels in love with the color change that it's totally wrong. That isn't always the case. I have learned to put my room back together and live with it and then I find I love it!

Have a great day!

Don't be discouraged! They look good on their own, but I agree that you will have to change the wall color and accessories to get the full effect. Keep tweaking until you are pleased with it!

I really like how your cabinets turned out!
Do as some of the other commenters suggested, change the color of the walls and add your hardware.
Live with it for a while. If your hate it, it can be easily changed with paint!
Now, may I come and use your bathroom? I really have to go pee!! LOL
I do love it!

Hi Lisa,
I think the cabinets look great. I think the problem is the wall color...the purple just isn't looking right with the prim cabinets. Try repainting the walls and I think you will like it much better.
