Master Bedroom Transformation

WOW ~ The weather is absolutely beautiful here in Ohio.  A slight breeze and the temps are in the 70’s.  What more could you ask for – right?  I love it when it is this beautiful and sunny.  Hope you all are ready for a BIG primtastic transformation.  I have one to share with all of you ~ trust me when I say that.  I still have alot more to do in order to complete it, but it is getting closer and closer.  I still need to make some shutters for my windows and take down those hideous blinds.  I also need to make myself some game-boards for above my bed and finish that wall off and get a new lamp for beside hubby’s side of the bed.  Hopefully that will be done soon.  So, do you wanna see the transformation?  Have a seat and enjoy the little tour of my newly re-finished master bedroom.  Here are some *BEFORE* pictures.  Ignore the bazillion toys.

Here are the *AFTER* pictures.  Hubby normally lets me do pretty much what I want to do however he drew the line when it came to removing the TV from our bedroom.  So, I have to think about how I can disguise the television in the meantime.  I have an idea, but I need to work on it along with a few other things.

Here is my new nightstand that I put beside my side of the bed.  It is actually and olde bin with lots of storage, but I thought it would be great in our bedroom.

Just a Quick Update

Things have been crazy around here lately.  It has been all good, but crazy!!  I just took an order into North Shore Primitives this past weekend and did some shopping as well.  I have so much to share with you, but no time to do it.  So, I will just tell you this……. I have more signs and game-boards to share, more prim goodies from my favorite prim shop plus *NEW* pictures of my bedroom.  Yep, you heard me correctly…. we have decided to move our bedroom back downstairs and I wanted to give it a new and improved look.  I must say that I am super excited about the way that it is taking shape.  It is an amazing transformation and I have tons of new goodies to fill in my room.  So, keep watching for pictures of the newly renovated bedroom and hopefully soon I can show you pictures of it being completed. 

Alot of you are asking about Cameron and he is doing much better.  No more high fever and the doctor thinks it was just a viral infection.  Qbert (our black schnauzer) is doing great and has to be the best puppy around.  He is adjusting nicely and is a big sweetheart!!  More coming soon on everything.

Primitive Cookbook Tutorial

Woke up this morning to ice and snow on the ground.  Yep, it was beautiful, warm, sunny and in the high 60’s the other day.  Only in Ohio does this happen (lol).  Time to get my winter coat back out.  Anyway, as promised I thought I would share with you a very quick and easy tutorial on a primitive cookbook that I made.  If you haven’t had the chance to visit Susie’s site (Yankee Lane Primitives) then you better head over there and check out her rag tags.  I ordered several from her recently and they are wonderful.  Many different ones to choose from and they are coffee stained perfectly for any project!!  After receiving my rag tags…. I went to my local Wal-Mart and purchased some homespun, went to Crafts 2000 and purchased the books.  Here is what you will need for the project. 

Glue, a small bowl, a little water, foam brush, scissors, homespun, rag tags, and a journal book.

Your first step is to coffee stain your homespun and let it dry completely.  Once that is dry then you will cut your homespun large enough to cover your book.  You want your piece large enough to cover the edges.  I started off by cutting it and then tore it the rest of the way to give the homespun a more rough and prim look.

Lay your book on the cloth like this.  You will want to get your small bowl and put some glue in it and water it down just enough for a syrup like consistency.  You will then apply your glue to the inner sides of the book where your cloth will cover.

Once that is folded over then you will want to apply your glue over the top of the cloth as well.  Make sure it is good and covered so the cloth is wet.  Every piece of the cloth should be covered with glue.

Once you have the bottom and the side done then you want to fold over the top.

After you have completely covered all of the cloth with glue then you will do the other side just the same.  Now we will apply our rag tag.  I chose this one from Susie because it was a more simple look and easier for her to print.  If there is more detail to the label that you pick then it might not turn out on the cloth.  So, run it by her and she will be able to tell you if it will look ok when printed.

Ok, let’s apply the rag tag to the cookbook.  Get a small amount of glue on your foam brush and apply that to the front of the book where you want your label to be.  Place your label and then apply glue over top of it once it is in the right spot.  Once that is covered then you will apply glue to the whole outside of the book.  It will take some time for it to dry, but it is important to cover the whole book in order to keep the cloth in place.

Are you are wondering how I dried it without the book sticking to everything?  I simply placed it standing upright on a foam plate for about an hour.  Now that your cookbook is done…..just let it dry and then write in only your family favorite recipes.  If you are anything like my Mom and I then you have your favorite recipes that you use all the time.  So, get those out and enter them in to your cookbook and there you have a perfectly prim cookbook that can be left out on the counter at all times.  Not only is it right at your fingertips, but it matches your decor as well.  Pretty neat – huh?

Whatcha Working on Wednesday

I have been busy with some of my newest stencils.  I found these and actually fell in love with them, but if you are familiar with my blog then you know all about my love of game-boards.  It is fun and relaxing and I enjoy making my own creations.  So, here are a few game-boards and signs that I have been working on recently.  These will be added to my selling blog Londonberry Primitives if you are interested in any of them.

I absolutely love the George Washington and Abe Lincoln game-board stencils.  I have been looking for something like those and when I stumbled across them…..well, I just had to order them.  I keep making myself more game-boards and I already don’t have the room for them in my hallway.  Perhaps I can find places for them throughout my home.  I guess time will tell (lol).  Anyway, it is relaxing and I enjoy it alot!

Another item that I have been working on is a primitive cookbook.  I will share a tutorial on that in my next post.

Fun Filled Friday

Let’s talk about the weather.  I have to admit that I have been absolutely spoiled with this weather that we have had the past week.  It has been beautiful outside and I have been soaking it up left and right.  The sun has been out, the temperatures have been in the mid 60’s and I have been taking advantage of it.  Friday was the Spring Open House for North Shore Primitives.  My Mom and I decided that we should definitely check it out and Mom said we had to get there early.  So, even though the doors didn’t open til 10:00 am, we were there at 9:30.  Yep, I didn’t think we needed to get there that early, but Mom was ready to shop!  Our favorite prim store was packed with beautiful spring flowers, lots of cute little prim bunny rabbits, spring pillows and the list goes on.  Of course it was well worth the trip.  Here are a few things that I picked up while shopping on Friday.

Don’t you love the flowers?  I thought they were so pretty and they looked so real.  I grabbed a couple groupings along with some other greenery and decided that they would look pretty in my home.  Who doesn’t like to bring a little “springtime” into their home?!?   I also picked up a cute little bird, a new blanket for my bed and a couple other goodies.  Yep, I was happy with what I came home with.  Another great part of my day is that I was able to spend it with my Mom.  You all know how much my Mom means to me so anytime that I can spend with her is a true blessing and a gift.  We just have so much fun together and she is truly my best girlfriend around.  I love you mom!! ♥ ♥ ♥

I was absolutely thrilled that I was able to meet up with a fellow blogger.  Karen from My Colonial Home arrived in Ohio from Wisconsin for some shows and we were able to hook up at North Shore Primitives.  It was great to be able to introduce her to my Mom.  It is funny because I actually pictured Karen being petite and sweet just like my Mom and she indeed was just that.  It is always nice meeting up with gals that have the same interests as you do……prims!!  Blogging buddies are the best and I was so happy to have the chance to meet Karen.  Her hubby seemed like such a nice guy and a great sport as well.  You gotta love a man that will walk around with you through a prim shop and smile while doing it.  I know that my hubby will do that at times and I am so happy that I was able to latch on to a guy that won’t complain!!  Maybe I should re-phrase that….. I am happy that I was able to latch on to a guy that won’t complain “too much”.  LOL

Anyway, it was great meeting you Karen.  I hope that you enjoyed your stay in Ohio.  Hopefully on your next visit we can meet up for lunch and chat awhile.  I think that would be great!!

I also thought that I would share with you my new kitchen floor.  I have been wanting new flooring in my kitchen for sometime now.  Well, we all know that money doesn’t grow on trees (ah shucks) so we tend to have to do things to our home when we can afford it.  Well, with my selling of the signs and game-boards to North Shore….. I was able to take some of that money and buy new flooring for our kitchen.  Hubby wasn’t too fond of having to install it, but it saved us some money and he did a wonderful job.  I am so proud of him for taking the interest to do it and doing it right.  It looks wonderful.  Here are a few pictures…….

He also had a little help.  This little helper had to have his “work boots” on to help out with the job.  He was so excited to help his Daddy and he didn’t do too bad himself.  Gotta love my boys!

So, what do you think of the new flooring?  It looks amazing ~ wouldn’t you agree?  I thought it looked primtastic with my re-finished cabinets.  Ignore the mess on the countertops….. I was in the process of baking a cake for my hubby’s birthday.  Anyway, I wanted to make sure that I showed the completed job!!

Well, I better wind this up for now.  I have lots more to show you including new game-boards and a new sign that I just completed.  I will probably post those in a couple days so be keeping an eye out for them.

Busy Bee

Good Morning!!  Hope you all are doing well.  I have been looking at all of your blogs, but just haven’t had much time to leave comments or blog myself.  This past week was crazy, but I enjoyed every single minute of it.  As most of you are aware I started making my creations to sell at my favorite prim shop….. North Shore Primitives.  It has kept me busy, but I enjoy it and most importantly it is wonderful to go in there, shop and see my creations all over the shop.  I have also been busy working on the website/blog for Vickie.  I was at the shop taking more pictures this past weekend and these group of pictures turned out wonderfully.  If you haven’t checked out the shop yet then please be sure to hop on over and take a tour.  I will be working on posting a tour of her shop a little bit later today, but there is already quite a bit on the site.  It is a wonderful prim shop and I am sure you will be drooling over all of her stuff (lol).  Lots of goodies!!

Well, I will show you a few items that I brought home from North Shore this past weekend.  This is my newest shelf and I absolutely love it.  It is black over red and more beautiful in person.  Check it out!!

Don’t you just love it?  My hubby surprised me with this beautiful light.  It will look great in my bedroom once it is re-finished!!

I also received a few other goodies this past weekend.  Yep, I ordered more stencils and have more coming in the mail.  I am quite excited to get my next batch, but here are a few to share with you today.

I ordered a few other items as well and received those from Susie.  Thanks Susie!!  I love them.

Don’t you just love those rag tags?  I purchased a couple small journal type books at Crafts 2000.  I am going to cover them in coffee stained homespun and add the Olde Farmhouse Cookbook rag tag.  Won’t they be primtastic in my kitchen?!?  I will be sure to show you pictures once they are completed. 

My one and only project that I completed for myself this past week was to coffee stain some white socks that I purchased at the Dollar Tree.  Yep, I found the biggest socks they had available and coffee stained them.  I wanted them for a couple places in my home, but mainly for my laundry room.  Here they are before…..WOW, that is bright white!!

I also wanted to send out a huge thank you to Gayle…..she sent me this stitchery and I wanted to say thank you!!  It looks wonderful and I can hardly wait to get it in a frame and up on the wall.  I love the saying and appreciate you making it for me.

It has been a busy week, but I have loved it, enjoyed it and honored to have this wonderful opportunity.  Yep, excitement has set in (hahaha).
