Things are Definately Taking Shape

Have I told you all how excited I am about these countertops? Well, I am so giddy with excitement that I can barely control myself. Yesterday turned out to be a very productive day!! I got done with one section of my countertops and was able to put them in, but I still have to work on the backsplash so I am not showing you a picture as of yet. Sorry ladies!! Once I put the one section in then I was able to add a think bead of caulk into the cracks in between each piece of wood. Of course the caulk dries clear and that will help prevent any food or liquid from getting down in the cracks. I will also put a couple coats of polyurethane on after the caulking is dry and then it should be done. It definitely looks great and it really just gives my kitchen a finished and completed look. The other section that will be beside my sink is currently drying and clamped and should be ready to start sanding later today. That was definitely the harder section so far. Some of the boards are a little crooked, but I think that we put enough biscuits in them and my FIL has some wood braces on the back so I think it will turn out just fine. Unfortunately, it is hard to get poker straight boards anymore, but we tried our best. I don't think it will cause any problems. Hopefully by mid week I will have everything in and just need to apply a couple coats of the poly to the tops.
I applied my Dark Walnut Minwax Stain to the tops and then rubbed each section off until it was just the way that I liked it. It was so much fun just watching everything transform.
Here is what the one completed section looked like after I applied all the stain. Looking good - don't ya think? I love how it will be light in one area and then get darker in another section and what prim person doesn't love seeing the knots in the wood? Yep, I am definitely pleased with the look!
Perhaps you all better check back tomorrow for more pictures. I guess you will have to just wait and see what will be posted tomorrow. If you are lucky then maybe you will get a better sneak peek!
Have a wonderful week ladies!!

those are looking GREAT! my hubby built us a kitchen table a few yrs. ago, and you know what...we never thought to fill in the spaces between boards, lol! Now, all the crumbs fall right down thru, the dog is very good though at keeping them cleaned up:)
