I Am Happy To Report

Well, I am happy to report that I think I am FINALLY out of my funk that I have been in since we got back from the beach. Things have been crazy, my parents are still trying to sell their condo that has been up for sale for 3 years and I guess you could say that there are times that I just wish that they were closer. I am especially close with my Mom and I miss her terribly. Not only is she a great Mom, but a wonderful friend too and I am just praying that they get moved back here soon so I can spend more time with them. I don't know about you, but there is nothing better then hanging out with a friend that has the same interests as you. It can be that you both love shopping for primitives or that you both totally adore your children........just basically anything. Well, my Mom and I have so much in common. We love some of the same things, we are like two peas in a pod and quite simply......we just love spending time together. I told my husband the other night that sometimes I feel like she is a twin of mine because we are so much alike. God definitely made me out of the same mold as my Mom. The good news is that they had a couple come and look at their condo on Wednesday and they love it, but want to think about it over the weekend before they decide. I am so hoping that they decide to go with my parents condo. If I could afford it then I would definitely be buying if I were looking (lol). It overlooks a beautiful golf course and everything about it is beautiful. I personally would think they were crazy if they didn't want it. Anyway, I will keep you all posted on that.

Do you remember this cute little candy holder that I received from Beth during her thrift store shopping giveaway? Well, I decided to use it as a bird feeder instead of a candy dish. The birds seem to really enjoy it and I thought it was a great idea for a bird feeder since I am trying to cut back on my sweets (lol). It was a little difficult to fill and I see now that the top is on crooked, but I guess the birds don't seem to mind. They have been going crazy over this thing and the nice thing is that it sets on the corner of my deck so I can peek out the back door and see the little birds just sitting there enjoying some food. Great idea - huh?
Well, for the much awaited news....... yep, this wood is for my kitchen countertops!! I am FINALLY going to get started on them tonight. We went to Lowe's last night and bought the wood. You can't beat new countertops for around $46.00. My FIL and MIL are coming over tonight. I offered to fix dinner since my FIL was going to help me so we are grilling out! Unfortunately, my FIL only has so many clamps so he will start the longer section of my countertops first which is the area by my kitchen sink. I was going to get a new kitchen sink, but I think I will stick with my stainless steel sink for now and get a new faucet. My Mom gave me this BEAUTIFUL gold faucet , but I think it is going to be too dressy for my kitchen. After looking at Lowe's last night, I found a brushed silver that I think will look just perfect for my kitchen. So, my FIL will take Liquid Nails and glue the boards together, clamp them and let them dry. Once they are dry then I will then sand the boards, stain them and then I will apply the polyurethane to them to make them have that smooth surface. I already went out and purchased some new cutting boards so everything will be cut and prepared on the cutting boards. I was worried about whether or not the countertops would be safe and sanitary, but if we prepare everything on the cutting boards then I am sure we will be fine. My MIL has been enjoying her wood countertops for awhile now and just loves them. I just can't wait. I am going to stain my wood the same color as my wood knobs on my cabinets and then I am going to work on my backsplash too. I will need something, but I am just not sure what. So, I will keep you posted on that too!! In the meantime........ enjoy taking a look at my boards and I will keep you all informed on the process.

Aren't they going to be beautiful after they are stained with my Walnut Stain?

I love the different colors of the wood and the knots in the wood are going to look so prim perfect!! OMGosh, I am getting so excited that I can barely control myself (lol). I wish I could get started now...... I am so NOT a patient person, but is there any prim patient person out there? If you are like me and many of my prim friends then you probably like to have it done like yesterday - right?
Well, until next time....... I hope you all have a WONDERFUL weekend.
Thanks for being patient with me while I was busy getting out of my funk!

New counters is so exciting! In the last few years we got rid of the stainless steel sink and got a granite one, a dark rubbed bronze faucet and new counters and it makes a world of difference to me. I know a few gals with wood counters and they use cutting boards and dough boards and they LOVE their wood counters so I am sure you will as well. Can't wait to see it all done!!

hugs, Linda

Lisa,
You will love the look of your wood countertops. I love mine & I'm so happy that we decided to do it and with our soninlaw doing it it wasn't terrible expensive. You will be so happy & I know about being patient but it does take time. We always use cutting boards but with the stuff Miah poured on ours it is very safe, sanitary, and tough. I will email you with what he used. I'm so glad you are out of your funk ~ aren't those awful? We all go thru that now & then. Glad you got your MOJO back, lol.
hugs,
Pam

Morning Lisa, so glad you are feeling a little more energetic. I think you just needed some down time! You have been a busy gal for a while now so it's ok for you to need a break. Glad you are getting started with your countertops....you will love them and they will really make your cabinets POP! We put in new countertops after painting and I am really enjoying them. Your faucet finish sounds alot like the one I chose and I really like it. Have you thought about splitting a board and making your splashback out of that? Just a thought,my friend.
Oh well, gotta get in my yards. Have a good day. Sherrie

I'm so glad you are feeling better and have something wonderful to look forward to! Your new counters are going to be awesome!

And let me tell you, the bond you have with your Mom is more special than any friendship! It's great that the two of you like the same things, etc. My Mom was also like my best friend. She has been gone for about 18 months, and it is so hard at times. I miss her so much!
So you enjoy your Mom every chance you get! I am praying that their condo sells so they can move closer to you. That is a blessing bigger than any.

Have a great weekend!

Lisa,
So glad to see your post. I enjoy your blog so much. How exciting, new wood counters. Can't wait to see them. We put butcher block counter on our island and finished it ourselves. Hubby sanded and sanded then put several coats of spray sealer on and its held up great for nine years now and its had tons of use too. Good luck. I'll be waiting and watching.
Have a great evening.

Lisa, you are soooo fortunate to have such a great relationship with your mother. My mother passed when I was 24 - 41 years ago! I still miss her - one wouldn't think you would, but you do! I think she would have liked to be included in my love for Prims too.

I LOVE your counter top wood...lucky you!

Hugs,
KAREN
