Do You Hear That?

Do you hear that?  Seriously, can you hear that?  Yep, I thought I was right… I can’t hear a thing, but perhaps it is because it is so quiet here tonight.  My little man is having a sleep over with his grandparents tonight.  Shawn’s parents wanted him to spend the night and since I normally want him to be with me all the time, well I decided to let him stay.  I thought I was in need of a much needed break.  So, when they came over this morning, he went home with them.  We stopped by their house this afternoon for some homemade pizza, but tonight he is enjoying the comfort of Grammy and Grampy’s home.  Shawn and I are enjoying the quiet time and I am enjoying the fact that I have a nice clean house for the evening and much into tomorrow too.  Gotta love being able to get the house back into order.

Did I tell you that I braved the freezing cold temperatures last night and went out and sanded a couple boards and finished my ladder back chairs?  Well, I was totally insane and went out in this cold weather.  Oh boy….. it was flipping freezing out!!  The temperatures are low again tonight with flurries, but nothing like what I hear some of you are receiving.  I am the type of gal that says “If it is gonna be cold and snow, then why not allow us to have more snow then just flurries.”  So, I am hoping we get some more snow then just a dusting on the ground which is what we have received lately.  So, with that being said…. do you think I should share pictures of my ladder back chairs?  Do you remember these awful looking chairs?  I found them on Craigslist for $30.00.  Yep, all four of them for a total of $30.00.  I thought that was a great deal and with a little bit of black flat spray paint and some dark walnut stain…they were as good as new.  Here is the BEFORE picture.

Here is the AFTER picture.

So, do you like them?  I was real pleased with the way that they turned out and they look great with my table.  Here is a picture of that.  Gotta love ladder back chairs!!

Oh….. do you remember me telling you about the windowsills that my FIL made for me for Christmas?  Well, I was able to get them stained the way that I wanted them and he was over a couple days ago to get them installed.  I must say that I absolutely love them.  They turned out beautifully and it is wonderful having the ability to put candles in my windows now.  So, are you ready to see some pics?  Here we go….

I absolutely love them and I love the color too.  I think that they totally and 100% complete the look of the window.  Before it just looked cold and unfinished and now they look fabulous if I do say so myself (lol).  Gotta love having a handy FIL and the great news about all of this… my husband is starting to take an interest too.  Today he was using the table saw SO, that is wonderful news and maybe soon he will be taking bigger steps and offering to make me something.  Ok, maybe I won’t go that far, but at least he will use the big saw which is a good thing because I am still a bit afraid of that bad boy (lol).  As long as he can cut…… I can make it.  I have so many more pics to share with you, but I don’t want to overload you all especially since we just entered into the New Year and all.  More pics coming soon so Stay Tuned.  Happy 2010!!

Until Next Time….. Blessings,Lisa

I'm having a really hard time reading your blog. The black on dark red makes it hard to read. I don't mean that in a bad way. I REALLY wanted to read it, but had to strain.

I love love love the chairs. Those turned out so great. And OMG $30! You got a steal!

Hey Lisa!
Was just thinking of how often my lil' boy(and girl)used to love to spend the night with DH's parents...that is sooo good for him and them too...plus the time for you and DH is nice too...
Oh girl! I am so with you about the snow...if it's gonna be cold...let's at least for one time,be able to have a sleddin' party with some friends....and ride on an old car hood in the snow...being pulled by the old farm truck....'til your cheeks are freezing...uh,both sets...lol! Then,we all huddle into our cozy lil'home to warm our bones with a nice steaming bowl of homemade potato or veggie soup or chili even! Ahhhh! Now that's what I'm talkin' bout!!
See how excited I get at the prospect of snow?!! LoL!!

Btw....bring on the photos...you know we can handle more..lol..you are just baiting the hook with those gorgeous pics of your chairs and your window sills,ya know! :-D
Isn't it such a feeling of satisfaction to have done things yourselves?
I just thank the Lord daily for giving us the ability to do what we do to add to our home and help to earn a living at it too!

Lisa,

Enjoy your quiet and don't feel a bit guilty you and your hubby need time alone and you need a break.

I love the chairs and you are brave. My daughters shelves still aren't painted because of this weather. The window sills were a great idea too. My home has sills but they aren't level, I have to use suction cups. Sometimes they fall off too, it really stinks when it breaks the bulb. I can't wait to see more.

Your chairs and window sills are wonderful! I won't use the big saws either, knowing me I'd end up missing fingers or half an arm, LOL!!!!

I love the chairs. I've been trying to find me some, with no luck.
The window sills are awesome.
I'm glad to hear that Shawn is taking an interest in woodwork. It makes a huge difference to have a hubby that enjoys it as much as you enjoy looking at the final results.
